Low side view of a twin engined jet airliner flying from left to right at a very low altitude

PH-NXV, Embraer E195-E2, KLM Cityhopper, on final approach to Runway 23 Right at Manchester Airport, 6th March 2025, as seen from Shadowmoss Road.

On This Day 13th October 1996.

Side view of a twin engined jet airliner parked facing to the right and slightly towards the camera. The plane is mostly white, with a grey belly, with dark blue "Lufthansa" titles on the upper forwards fuselage. The black letters "LC" are on the open nose wheel doors. The dark blue tail has a yellow circle in the middle, containing a stylised blue flying bird. Yellow baggage carts and loading belts are scattered around the plane, with a white set of mobile airstairs with a blue stripe and "Flughafen Frankfurt Airport" titles on the side. Grey concrete apron fills the foreground, with large, circular green and white fuel tanks on the right of the frame, and tall lighting poles and trees on the left, under flat grey sky with patches of blue.

I'm not sure what seat I was in, but I was on board D-ABXC, Boeing 737-330, on LH4912 back to Manchester, when we taxied past this, which was almost brand new, having been delivered just a couple of weeks earlier.

I'm still surprised I made this flight, but that's another story…

Side view of a high-winged, twin propellor-engined airliner moving at speed from left to right, with flaps extended from the rear of the wings, and the nose-wheel slightly off the ground, suggesting it is taking off. The plane is largely white, with a red and black stripe running along the body, sweeping up into the lower reaches of the tail. There is a red triangle towards the front of the tail. The black registration "G-BEEG" is on the upper rear fuselage, and smaller, black "Northern Airlines" titles under the cockpit. Green grass fills the foreground, and much of the background, with trees in the distance and grey skies over everything else.

G-BEEG, Britten-Norman BN-2A-26 Islander, Northern Airlines, taking off from Manchester Barton, some time in the late 1990s.

Despite the name, it was actually operated by North West parachute Centre, for dropping parachutists.

Side view of a delta-winged, 4 engined military bomber aircraft parked facing to the right. There is a blue, white, and red roundel on the nose, under the bump that is the cockpit, with another roundel on top of the right wing. The black serial "XM603" is on the power part of the tail, under a blue, white, and red fin flash, with red "Avro Vulcan" titles towards the top of the tail. There are people clustered under the belly of the plane, with another group of people under the tail, looking up at the engine exhausts, coming out of the rear of the wings, next to the rear fuselage. Green grass fills the foreground, with fluffy grey clouds filling the rest of the frame.

XM603, Avro 698 Vulcan B.2, Royal Air Force, parked in a remote spot at the annual Woodford Air Show, some time in the 1990s.

This was a popular spot for people to hang out when that most Manchester of things happens and it rains.

Side view of a 3 engined jet airliner parked by a terminal, facing to the right. The plane has a white upper fuselage, with grey on the lower section, and a blue stripe running along the body, covering the passenger cabin windows. There are black "LatAvio" titles on the upper forward fuselage, with smaller white text "Tu154B-2" on the blue stripe just aft of the cockpit. The black registration "YL-LAC" is on the centre engine intake, just in front of the tail, which itself has a large Latvian flag (2 thick red horizontal stripes separated by a thin white stripe) in the middle. The other engines, one on each side mounted on the rear fuselage, are grey. A baggage compartment hatch is open in the lower fuselage, between the forward- and mid-cabin doors, with a mobile baggage-loading belt raised towards it. Grey concrete apron fills the foreground, with a large terminal building on the right of the frame, and several mostly white airliners parked nose in, with white airbridges attached to the far sides.

YL-LAC, Tupolev TU-154B-2, LatAvio, parked on Gate 200 on Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport, some time in the 1990s, as seen from the top of the T1 car park.

Bonus points for anyone who can identify the 7 planes in the background.
