Side view of a single-engined light aircraft parked on black tarmac facing to the right and slightly away from the camera. The plane has a grey, almost metallic upper body and white lower body and tail, with a thin red pin-stripe separating the 2 colours. Ther red registration "G-BOPU" is on the rear fuselage, a white box around it cutting into the grey area. Several other planes are parked in the background, mostly on grass on the right of the frame, but also one on tarmac on the left. A red brick control tower with a heavily glazed top floor dominates the background on the left, reaching into the grey sky.

G-BOPU, Grob G-115, Lancashire Aero Club, at Manchester Barton, some time in the 1990s.

I miss the days when you could freely walk around Barton - it's still a great place to visit, but views are much more restricted now.

Manchester Monday 3 21st July 2025.

Side view of a single-engined bi-plane trainer aircraft parked facing to the right on grass. The plane has a dark brown, almost black body, with a pair of open cockpits, and a blue, white, and red roundel just aft of the rear cockpit. Red struts connect the wings, the top wing suspended over the forward fuselage. The white serial "H5199" s painted on the rear fuselage, and repeated on the small, curved tail which has red, white and blue vertical bars. A man s standing in front of the plane, holding onto the leading edge of the lower right wing. A black runway s at the bottom of the image, but it looks as if the plane is going to take off from the grass. A red and white building next to a blue hangar fills the background.
